Wild magic surge table
Any effect takes place in addition to the spell cast without expending a spell slot unless specified otherwise. Effects do not require concentration to maintain unless specified otherwise. It is possible to dispel effects. Any reference to spell cast refers to the spell that generated the wild magic surge. Treat an effect as the same level as the spell that generated it for determining whether a dispel attempt is successful.
1-2 Infection: Anyone within 60 feet who casts a spell of first level or higher in the next minute must also roll on this table unless they suppress the surge with a successful CHA save.
3-4 If applicable, apply the Twinned Spell metamagic to this spell at no sorcery point cost.
5-6 A creature of CR equal to the level of the spell is summoned within 60 feet which is hostile to the caster.
7-8 Everyone within 20 feet of the caster takes 1d6 of damage per level of the spell or half with a successful DEX save. The damage type matches the spell’s type if applicable or else defaults to lightning.
9-10 You cast magic missile at the same level as the spell cast (Max 5th).
11-12 You age a number of years equal to the level of the spell cast.
13-14 You cast Confusion centered on yourself. The duration is limited to one round per level of the spell cast.
15-16 For the next minute you regain hit points equivalent to the level of the spell cast (Max 5) at the start of each of your turns.
17-18 You experience a random change in your appearance as determined by the DM that lasts until your next wild surge, such as a feathered beard,, a change in height while remaining the same size, or a change in skin color.
19-20 If this spell does damage, you take half of what it normally deals. You automatically make any applicable saving throw that applies to this damage.
21-22 Creatures have disadvantage against any applicable saving throw that this spell allows.
23-24 You experience a random cosmetic change as determined by the DM that lasts until you receive a remove curse.
25-26 You experience a random physical change as determined by the DM which results in advantage on a particular skill check for one hour, such as gaining fox ears that enhance your hearing or growing tiny hands on the tips of your fingers that enhance sleight of hand.
27-28 You are affected by haste for 1d4 rounds.
29-30 This spell cast is treated as if it were cast with a slot one level higher (Max 9th).
31-32 You are transported to the astral plane until the end of your next turn, at the end of which time you return to the space you previously occupied, or the nearest unoccupied space if that space is occupied.
33-34 If applicable, apply the empowered spell metamagic to this spell without the cost of sorcery points.
35-36 You get physically younger by a number of years equal to the level of the spell cast (Min: 8 years old).
37-38 1d6 creatures of CR ¼ as determined by the DM appear within 60 feet of you for one minute or until slain.
39-40 You regain 2 hit points per level of the spell cast.
41-42 You are polymorphed into a CR ¼ beast as determined by the DM until the start of your next turn, at which point you can use a bonus action to shift back at any time. The effect ends after one hour.
43-44 For each level of the spell cast, you can cast misty step one time within the next minute.
45-46 You cast levitate on yourself.
47-48 A creature of CR equal to the level of the spell is summoned within 60 feet as determined by the DM depending on the local environment.
49-50 A random effect interferes with your speech for the next minute that prevents you from communicating or being able to cast spells with verbal components such as bubbles flowing when you open your mouth, your words coming out backward, or a high-pitched squeal instead of speech.
51-52 A spectral shield hovers near you for the next minute granting +2 to your AC and immunity to magic missiles.
53-54 You are immune to being intoxicated by alcohol for 3 days per level of the spell cast.
55-56 For an hour, everything you wear or carry on your person becomes invisible until you drop it. You gain +1 on melee weapon attacks against enemies who can’t see your weapons.
57-58 For the next minute, your touch has a strange side effect to certain objects as determined by the DM, such as igniting flammable objects or transforming metal into wood. Magical objects are immune.
59-60 You regain your lowest level expended spell slot.
61-62 Your speech undergoes a random transformation for the next minute as determined by the DM, such as always shouting, always whispering, or speaking in a language that you don’t normally know. The effect won’t interfere with spellcasting.
63-64 You cast Fog Cloud centered on yourself.
65-66 Up to three creatures you choose within 30 feet of you take 1d10 of damage per level of the spell cast (max 5d10) of the same damage type as the spell cast if applicable or defaulting to lightning otherwise.
67-68 You are affected by a random condition as determined by the DM until the end of your next turn.
69-70 Each creature within 30 feet of you becomes invisible for the next minute as if affected by the Invisibility spell.
71-72 You gain resistance to all damage for the next minute.
73-74 A random creature within 60 feet of you must make a constitution save or gain a random condition as determined by the DM for the next 1d4 hours.
75-76 You shed bright light out to 30 feet and dim light out to 60 feet for the next hour. Any creature that ends it’s turn within 5 feet of you must save or be blinded until the end of its next turn.
77-78 You cast polymorph on yourself and are transformed into a random CR 1 or less beast as determined by the DM for the spell’s duration.
79-80 You cast Major Image in your vicinity, the details of the illusion being determined by the DM and lasting for the duration.
81-82 You can take one additional action immediately.
83-84 Each creature within 30 feet of you must make a constitution save or take 2 points of necrotic damage per level of the spell up to 10 maximum. Creatures who save take half damage. You are healed by the amount of damage dealt.
85-86 You cast Mirror Image.
87-88 You cast Fly on a random creature within 60 feet of you. The recipient creature must concentrate to maintain this effect.
89-90 You cast invisibility on yourself.
91-92 If you die within the next hour, you come back to life as if by the reincarnate spell.
93-94 You increase in size by one category for the next minute.
95-96 You and all creatures within 30 feet of you gain vulnerability to a certain damage type for the next minute. Roll a d6. 1-2: Piercing, 3-4: Slashing, or 5-6: Bludgeoning
97-98 You are surrounded by faint, ethereal music for the next minute.
99-100 You regain all expended sorcery points.
